  Note
t  The box -1- is shown in a removed condition in the following figures to provide a better view.
  A15-10447
t  Lift the locking element -2- with a scriber or suitable screwdriver -3- in -the direction of the arrow-.
  E15-10099
–  Insert scriber or suitable screwdriver in hole of chain tensioner in direction of -arrow 1- and lift locking element for chain tensioner.
–  Turn crankshaft in opposite direction to normal rotation -arrow 2- and lock in place using locking pin -T40011-.
  Note
Inlet camshaft will move in direction of engine rotation.
  A15-10560
–  Remove bolt -1- and detach tensioning rail -2- downwards.
–  Use screwdriver to release catch and press off top guide rail -3- forwards.
–  Remove camshaft timing chain from camshaft sprockets.
  Caution
Risk of damage to valves and piston heads.
Once the camshaft chain has been extracted from the cylinder head, the crankshaft must not turn.
–  Remove bolts from connector rail for ignition coils.
  A15-10602
–  Release connectors -arrows- and unplug all connectors from the ignition coils at the same time.
  N28-10012
–  Remove ignition coils using puller -T40039-.
  A28-0074

–  Remove bolts -arrows-, detach crankcase breather system and disconnect from crankcase breather hose -2- in direction of -arrow-.
  A15-10610
–  Disconnect pipe -arrows-.
–  Unplug electrical connector -1- from Hall sender -G40-
–  Remove the high-pressure pump, 1.8 litre engine (CDHA, CDHB) → Chapter. , 2.0 litre engine (CDND) → Chapter.
–  Remove exhauster pump → Rep. gr.47.
  A15-10611
–  Tighten cylinder head cover bolts in the sequence -1 … 6-.
–  Remove the cylinder head cover
–  Detach camshafts.
  Caution
Protect lubrication system and bearings against contamination.
Cover exposed parts of the engine.
Installing
l  Tightening torques → Chapter
  Note
t  The sealing surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
t  Pistons must not be at TDC.
t  Ensure that all the roller rocker fingers are correctly supported on the ends of the valve stems.
–  Remove sealant remaining on cylinder head with flat scraper.
  WARNING
Protect eyes against injuries.
Wear safety goggles.
  Caution
Protect lubrication system and bearings against contamination.
Cover exposed parts of the engine.
  A15-10557
–  Remove sealant residue in groove of cylinder head cover and on sealing surfaces, e.g. using a rotating plastic brush.
–  Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.
  A13-0590
–  Cut off the tube nozzle on the front marking (diameter of the nozzle approximately. 2 mm).
–  Oil running surfaces of both camshafts.
  A17-0081
–  Fit camshafts in cylinder head, recesses -arrows- must face each other.
–  Replace the cylinder head cover bolts.
  A15-10608
–  Apply silicone sealant onto clean sealing surface of cylinder head cover, as illustrated -arrows-.
t  Thickness of the sealant grub: 2 to 3 mm.
  Note
t  The cylinder head cover must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the silicone sealant.
t  The bead of sealant must not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant can enter the sump and obstruct the strainer in the oil intake pipe.
t  Observe use-by date of sealant.
