Renewing valve stem oil seals with cylinder head removed
Check the tool and equipment equivalence table according to the applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Extractor -3364-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Pressure tool -3365-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Valve insertion socket -VAS 5161-, please see Correspondence → Anchor
t  Engine and gearbox support -VAS 6095-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Cylinder head clamping device -VAS 6419-, see equivalent → Anchor

Operation process
–  Remove camshafts; 1.8 litre engine → Chapter, 2.0 litre engine → Chapter.
–  Mark original positions of roller rocker fingers and hydraulic compensation elements for reinstallation.
–  Remove roller rocker fingers together with hydraulic compensation elements and put down on a clean surface.
–  Insert cylinder head tensioning device -VAS 6419- into engine and gearbox support -VAS 6095-.
–  Tension cylinder head on cylinder head tensioning device as shown in illustration.
–  Connect cylinder head clamping device to compressed air.

–  Using lever -arrow-, slide air pad under combustion chamber where valve stem oil seal is to be removed.
–  Allow compressed air to flow into air cushion until it lies against valve disc.

–  Fasten the template -VAS 5161/19B- to the cylinder head with theknurled bolts -VAS 5161/12-, as shown in the figure.
–  Set piston of appropriate cylinder to „bottom dead centre“.
–  Apply the punch -VAS 5161/3- to the guide plate and use plastic-headed hammer to release sticking valve cotter pins.
  A15-10436
For inlet side
–  Screw the snap-in device -VAS 5161/6- with engaging fork -VAS 5161/5- into the centre thread of the guide plate -VAS 5161/19B-.
–  Insert the assembly cartridge -VAS 5161/8- in guide plate -VAS 5161/19B-.
–  Engage pressure fork -VAS 5161/2- on snap-in device -VAS 5161/6-.
  N15-10112
For exhaust side
–  Screw the snap-in device -VAS 5161/6- with engaging fork -VAS 5161/5- into the outer thread of the guide plate -VAS 5161/19B-.
–  Press down assembly cartridge -VAS 5161/8- and at the same time, turn knurled screw of assembly cartridge -VAS 5161/8- clockwise until tips engage in valve cotters.
–  Move knurled screw back and forth slightly; the valve cotters are thus forced apart and taken up by the assembly cartridge.
–  Release the pressure prong -VAS 5161/2-.
–  Take out assembly cartridge -VAS 5161/8-.
  N15-10113
–  Pull off valve stem oil seal with valve stem seal puller -3364-.

t  If valve cotters have been removed from assembly cartridge, they need to be put into insertion device -VAS 5161/18- first.
t  Press the assembly cartridge -VAS 5161/8- onto insertion device from above and pick up the valve cotter pins.
–  Use pressure fork -VAS 5161/2- to press down assembly cartridge -VAS 5161/8-, then turn knurled screw of assembly cartridge back and forth while pulling upwards.
–  Release pressure fork -VAS 5161/2- with knurled screw in pulled position.
–  Detach the value assembly -VAS 5161-.
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling sequence. The following should be taken into account:
–  Install the camshafts; 1.8 litre engine → Chapter, 2.0 litre engine → Chapter.
