Test requirements
l  The fuse for the fuel pump must function correctly. Fuse installation → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
l  Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V
  Note
t  The operation of the fuel pump is checked with the actuator diagnosis.
t  Observe the functional description of the crash fuel shut-off system → Chapter
   
–  Connect the self diagnosis -VAS 505X- as described below:
–  Plug the connector 2 of the diagnosis cable into the diagnosis socket in the footwell on the driver's side.
–  switch ignition on.
–  Select the following options on the display one after another: “Vehicle self-diagnosis”, “01 - Engine electronics” and “Actuator diagnosis”.
–  Press the right-hand side button until the fuel pump electronic actuator diagnosis is selected.
The fuel pump should start running, first slowly and then gradually up to full power.
  Note
The fuel pump runs very quietly.
Switch ignition OFF.
If the fuel pump does not run:
–  Move rear seat forward.

–  Extract the connector -1- from the fuel supply unit.
–  By performing a pull check without actuating the lock, check if the plug connector A has been connected correctly.

–  Pull the connector from the fuel delivery unit flange.
–  Check the contact on the plug connector and the fuel supply unit for damage.

–  Fit the adapter -VAS 5565- to the connection and to the fuel delivery unit.
–  Connect the voltage tester -VAG 1527B- to lines -1- and -5- of the adapter.
–  switch ignition on.
–  The LED must light briefly.
If the LED does not light up:
–  Locate and eliminate open circuit using current flow diagram → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
Light Emitting Diode: correct voltage supply

–  Unscrew union nut using key -3217-.
–  Check that the electrical wires between flange and fuel pump are connected.
If there is cable integrity:
–  Replace the fuel delivery unit
