Check the fuel pressure .
Check the fuel pressure .
  WARNING
Fuel supply pipes are pressurised. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then eliminate the pressure by carefully separating the pipe.
   
–  Release supply hose -2-, and collect leaking fuel with a cloth.

–  Mount the check pressure switch -V.A.G 1318- with the adapter unit -V.A.G 1318/17A-.
–  Open cut-off tap on pressure gauge.
–  Turn the ignition on as many times as necessary until the fuel pressure on the pressure gauge does not increase any further.
–  Take the fuel pressure reading on the pressure gauge. Specification: 3.5 - 6.0 bar.
If the fuel pressure is correct, check the retention pressure → Chapter.
If specification is exceeded:
–  Check that the return pipe between the filter and the fuel pump is not kinked or blocked.
If no fault is found:
–  Pressure limiting valve in the fuel filter faulty: Replace the fuel filter.
If the specification is not obtained:
  N20-10415
–  Check the fuel pressure before the filter. To do so, attach the pressure gauge -V.A.G 1318-, using the adaptor unit -V.A.G 1318/17A-, between the filter and the fuel supply pipe.
–  Open cut-off tap on pressure gauge. The lever indicates the direction of flow.
–  Start engine and run at idling speed.
  Caution
The shut-off valve must be closed slowly. If a fuel pressure of 8 bar is reached, immediately open the shut-off valve again to avoid damaging the pressure gauge.

–  Slowly close the shut-off valve on the pressure gauge. The pressure must be at least 6,0 bar rise. If a pressure of 6.0 bar is reached, immediately open the shut-off valve again.
If the pressure has increased:
–  Fuel filter is OK. Pressure limiting valve in the fuel filter faulty: Replace the fuel filter.
If the pressure does not increase:
–  Fuel pump is defective, renew fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
