Valve guides: verification

Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Universal dial gauge support -VW 387-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Gauge -VAS 6079-, see equivalent → Anchor

Checking sequence

–	Insert valve into valve guide. Valve stem end must be flush with guide. The valve boreholes have different diameters: the inlet valves only fit in the the inlet guides and the exhaust valves only in the exhaust guide.

–	Measure the amount of sideways play.

Wear limit

Inlet valve guide	Exhaust valve guide
0.80 mm	0.80 mm

Note

t	If the wear limit is exceeded, redo the measurement using new valves. If the wear limit is still exceeded, replace the cylinder head

t	If the valve is to be renewed as part of a repair, use a new valve for the calculation.
