Fuel tank: draining t  Emptying fuel tank if it is more than 3/4 full → Anchor. t  Emptying fuel tank if it is less than 3/4 full → Anchor Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter. Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Fuel pump unit -VAS 5190-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Turning tool -T10202-, see equivalent → Anchor t  Torque wrench -VAG 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor. –  Observe the safety precautions before starting work → Chapter . Emptying fuel tank if it is more than 3/4 full .   Caution Secure the earth cable of the fuel extractor -VAS 5190- to the bodywork.

–  Remove the taper -2- from the channel -1- of the fuel extractor -VAS 5190-. –  Use insulating tape to mark the extraction hose -arrow- at a distance of -a- = 1,180 mm from the end of the hose.

–  Remove filler cap from fuel tank filler neck. –  Tighten the channel -1- of the fuel extractor -VAS 5190- to the fuel tank filler mouth. –  Push extraction hose into fuel tank until marking on hose -arrow- coincides with shaft end.   Note

At the lower end of the filling mouth, there is a ball valve -2- on the fuel tank -1-. Avoid damage to this with the suction hose -3-. Therefore, only push the hose in as far as the tape marking -arrow-. –  Empty the fuel tank as much as possible through the filler mouth. –  Carefully pull out extraction hose.   Note t  When no more fuel is extracted, the tank is emptied just enough for the sender flange to be opened without danger. The fuel tank can be removed with the remaining fuel still inside it. t  If it is necessary to carry out work on the fuel pump or the fuel delivery unit, proceed as follows: Emptying fuel tank if it is less than 3/4 full –  Remove the rear seat bench → Bodywork, interior fitting work; Rep. gr.72 –  Remove the cover of fuel delivery unit.   WARNING Fuel supply line is pressurised. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection. –  Disconnect the connector and the fuel pipes.   Note To do this, press on the connection buttons for the hoses.

–  Open the lock ring with the turning tool -T10202- . –  Lift the fuel delivery unit. –  Insert the suction hose of the fuel extractor -VAS 5190- as far as possible into the fuel tank and extract the fuel. If it is only necessary to drain the fuel tank, re-install the fuel supply unit → Chapter.
