Removing and installing fuel delivery unit
Removing and installing fuel delivery unit

Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Spanner -3217-, see equivalent → Anchor
  W00-0291
t  Torque wrench -VAG1332-, see equivalent → Anchor.
Removing
Requirements:
l  The fuel tank should be at half capacity at the most.
  Note
If necessary, drain the tank → Chapter.
–  Note safety precautions before starting work → Chapter
–  Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. Check the anti-theft code in this case.
–  Remove the earth wire of the battery when the ignition is turned off and lay to the side.
–  Fold rear seat forwards.

–  Remove the cover -1- of the fuel delivery unit together with the fuel pump control unit -J538--2-.
  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure! Wear eye protection and gloves to avoid injuries and skin contact. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.

–  Separate the plug connection -1- and the fuel lines -2- and -3-.
  Note
Press in safety wedge to release fuel lines.
  WARNING
The fuel pump unit may be removed only with the tank at maximum 3/4 full. Otherwise a large amount of fuel will escape.

–  Unscrew union nut with wrench -3217-.
–  Pull fuel delivery unit and seal out of their housing in fuel tank.
  Note
If the fuel delivery unit needs replacing, drain the old delivery unit prior to disposal.
Installing
Install in reverse order to dismantling, noting the following:

t  When inserting the fuel delivery unit ensure that the fuel gauge sender is not bent -G-.
t  Insert seal for fuel delivery unit dry into opening of fuel tank.
t  Moisten seal with fuel only when installing fuel delivery unit.
t  The marking on the sender must align with the marking on the fuel tank -arrows-.

t  Tighten the union nut to 80 Nm.
t  Do not interchange supply and return lines.
t  Ensure that line connections are tight.
t  After installing fuel delivery unit, check that the supply, return and breather lines are still clipped onto the fuel tank.
