Safety precautions
To prevent injuries to persons and/or damage to the fuel injection and ignition system, the following must be noted:
t  Do not touch or disconnect ignition cables when the engine is running or being turned at starter speed.
t  Switch off ignition before connecting or disconnecting injection and ignition system wiring as well as test instrument cables.
If in the test drives it is necessary to use the tester units, take note of the following:
t  Test and measuring instruments must always be secured to rear seat and operated by a second person.
If test and measuring instruments are operated from front passenger seat, there is a possibility that the person sitting in this seat may receive serious injuries when the airbag is triggered.
t  If the engine is to be turned at starter speed without starting:

–  Remove the 4-pin connectors from the ignition coils with output stage -arrows- → Chapter.
–  Remove the fuse for the fuel pump control unit -J538- from the fuse holder; fuse position → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
