Fitting
  Note
When camshaft is turned, ensure crankshaft is not at TDC. The valves or cylinder heads may be damaged.
A – Toothed belt separated
–  If the toothed belt is removed from the camshaft cogwheel → .
Prerequisites
l  The pistons must not be positioned at TDC.
Operation sequence

–  Make the mark on the camshaft cogwheel and the mark on the toothed belt protection coincide.
–  Fit the toothed belt onto the crankshaft pulley and then fit the cogwheel of the intermediate axle (note the D.O.R.).
–  Attach the camshaft pulley/damper with a bolt (note the attachment).
  V13-1216
–  Make the mark on the damper or the pulley coincide with the mark on the cogwheel of the intermediate axle (TDC cylinder 1).
–  Fit the toothed belt onto the cogwheel of the camshaft.
  V13-1142
–  Tense the toothed belt, to do this rotate the tension roller in the -direction of the arrow- using the rotation tool -U-30009A-.
Taking the toothed belt between the thumb and the index finger by the point between the pinions of the camshaft and the intermediate axle, it should be possible to rotate it just 90º.
–  Tighten the tension pulley attachment.
   Tightening torque: 45 Nm
–  Rotate the crankshaft twice in the DOR of the engine until the TDC of cylinder 1 is reached and then verify the adjustment.
–  Remove the vibration damper/pulley.
–  Fit the lower protection cover of the notched belt.
–  Fit the coolant pump pulley, the pulley for the damper and the upper part of the toothed belt protection.
–  Fit the tensioning pulley for the Poly-V belt.
   Tightening torque: 20 Nm
–  Fit the ribbed Poly-V belt → Chapter.
  Note
On fitting the Poly-V belt, make sure that it is correctly located on the pulleys.
–  Fit the air filter: → Rep. Gr.24.
–  Check the ignition timing and if necessary, adjust it: → Rep. Gr.28.
B – Toothed belt only removed from the camshaft wheel
  Note
When camshaft is turned, ensure crankshaft is not at TDC. The valves or cylinder heads may be damaged.
Operation sequence
  V13-1272
–  Make the mark on the camshaft cogwheel and the mark on the toothed belt protection coincide.
  V13-1216
–  Turn crankshaft/engine flywheel to TDC No.1 cylinder.
–  Fit the toothed belt onto the cogwheel of the camshaft.
  V23-0018
–  Tense the toothed belt, to do this rotate the tension roller in the direction of the -arrow- using the rotation tool -U-30009A-.
  V13-1272
–  Check if the distributor rotor points to the mark for cylinder 1 on the housing of the distributor. If not, the distributor should be rotated until the mark coincides, if necessary refit the ignition distributor.
–  Check the ignition timing and if necessary, adjust it: → Rep. Gr.28.
