Camshaft, checking axial play > < Valve control

1 - 50 Nm + retighten 1/4 turn (90º)
q   Replace
2 - Pinions
q   Supply camshaft
q   Note position when installing timing chain → Chapter
3 - Pinions
q   Exhaust camshaft
q   Note position when installing timing chain → Chapter
4 - 10 Nm + retighten 1/4 turn (90º)
q   Replace
q   Tighten from centre outwards
5 - Camshaft housing
q   removing and installing → Chapter
q   Remove old sealant residues
q   Coat with D154 103 A1 before fitting.
q   When installing, fit vertically from above onto studs and dowel pins.
6 - O ring
q   Replace
7 - 10 Nm
8 - Roller rocker arms
q   Check roller bearing.
q   Oil sliding surfaces
q   ?When installing, secure to support element using securing clip.
9 - Cones
10 - Supporting element
q   Check oil spray holes.
q   With hydraulic valve clearance compensation.
q   Do not mix them up
q   Before installing, check camshaft axial clearance → Chapter.
q   Oil sliding surfaces
11 - Valve plate spring
12 - Valve spring
Removing and installing:
q   with cylinder head removed: remove using compressor tool for valve spring -3362-
q   Cylinder head installed: → Chapter
13 - Valve stem seal
q   replace → Chapter
14 - Repair valve stem
q   With collar
15 - Valve guide
q   check → Chapter
16 - Cylinder head
q   Reworking valve seat → Chapter.
q   Reworking sealing surface → Fig.
17 - Valves:
q   Not to be reworked; only grinding-in permissible
q   Valve dimensions → Fig.
18 - Sealing cap
q   For exhaust camshaft.
19 - Exhaust camshaft
q   Do not interchange with inlet camshaft
q   check the axial play → Chapter
q   Coat with oil before inserting (also axial bearing shoulder).
20 - Sealing cap
q   For inlet camshaft.
21 - Supply camshaft
q   Do not interchange with exhaust camshaft.
q   check the axial play → Chapter
q   Coat with oil before inserting (also axial bearing shoulder).

   
Machining cylinder head sealing surface
Cylinder head reworking dimension: a = minimum 108.25 mm
  Note
When the sealing surface has been reworked, the valves must be set deeper by the same amount (valve seat inserts reworked) or valves will contact pistons. When doing so, ensure that the minimum permissible dimension is maintained → Chapter.
