Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Extractor -T10112-
t  Special wrench -T20175-
t  Compression tester -VAG 1763-

Test conditions
l  Engine oil temperature at least 30 °C.
l  Minimum battery voltage 12.7 V
Checking sequence
   
–  Detach engine cover -arrows- (according to version).
  A10-1564
–  Remove the connector for the ignition transformer -N152-.
–  Separate electrical connectors at the outer injectors .
  N28-0145
–  Remove the spark plug hood off using the puller -T10112- .
–  Remove the spark plugs using the spark plug spanner -T20175-.
–  Ask another mechanic to press the accelerator so that the throttle valve is completely open.
–  Check compression with compression tester -VAG 1763- and the adapter -VAG 1763/6- .
  Note
Use of the testing equipment → Instructions.
–  Operate the starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.

10,0 … 13,07,03.0 (maximum)

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
–  Following work, interrogate and erase fault memory of engine control unit → Chapter .
  Note
After deleting the event memory, the readiness code must be generated: → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051„Guided Functions“.
