Front sealing flange: Removing and installing
Front sealing flange: Removing and installing
t  Removing → Anchor
t  Fitting → Anchor.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench -SAT 8010-
t  Counterhold -T20018B-
t  Guide bush -T20081B-
t  Silicon sealant → ETKA (electronic parts catalogue)
t  Electric drill with plastic brush
t  Flat scraper
t  Protective glasses

Removing
–  Remove the Poly V-belt → Chapter.

–  To remove the upper timing belt guard, the locking element groove must be rotated -1- to the position -OPEN- on the protection.
–  Lift retaining tabs -arrows- and take the upper notched belt guard off.
  Note
The engine should revolve around the central bolt of the crankshaft.
  A13-0644
–  Set the engine to TDC cylinder 1. To do this, rotate the crankshaft via the centre bolt of the timing belt/crankshaft in the direction of rotation of the engine. The marking on the camshaft sprocket -arrows- and the marking on the crankshaft must lie at TDC Cyl. 1.
  A13-0691
–  Loosen the bolt on the tension roller -arrow- and remove the timing belt from the camshaft wheel.
–  Turn crankshaft back slightly.
  A13-0504
–  Remove the crankshaft sprocket, immobilising it with the counterhold -T20018B-.
  E13-0016
–  Extract the bolts -1 ... 10-fixing the front sealing flange.
–  Lever off sealing flange. If necessary, loosen by giving light taps with a rubber hammer.
  Note
Lie a cloth over the open part of the oil sump.
Installing
–  Eliminate the sealant residue from the engine block and the oil sump, using a flat rasp.
  WARNING
Wear goggles.
  A13-0517
–  Remove sealant remaining on sealing flange with rotating plastic brush (wear eye protection).
–  Clean sealing surfaces. They must be free of oil and grease.
  Note
t  Observe use-by date of sealant.
t  The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes of applying silicone sealant.
  A17-0030
–  Cut off tube nozzle at upper marking (nozzle approx. approx. 3 mm).
  A17-0081
–  Apply a thin length silicone paste -arrows- to the edge between the engine block and oil sump (on both components).
  A13-0518
–  Clean the contact surface of the sealing flange, and apply the silcone sealant bead, as shown.
t  Thickness of the sealing paste bead -arrow-: 2 ... 3 mm
  Note
The sealant bead must not be thicker than the specification, otherwise the excess sealant may enter the oil sump, and obstruct the filter in the oil intake pipe.
  A17-0028
–  Apply a thin layer of silicone sealant to the lower sealant surface of the sealing flange -shaded area-.
–  Slide the sealing flange carefully on the engine block centring pins.
  Note
Use the adapter -T20081/4- to fit sealing flange with the oil seal already installed.
–  Fit the sealing flange immediately and tighten bolts in the indicated sequence:
  A13-0519
–  Tighten bolts crossways -1 ... 6- securing the sealing flange.
–  Then tighten the bolts -7 ... 10-.
–  Use clean cloth to wipe off oil residue at crankshaft journal.
  A13-0517
–  Fit the crankshaft sprocket, immobilising it with the counterhold -T20018B-.
–  Tighten the new central bolt to the prescribed torque → Item.
  Note
t  There should be no oil on the contact surface between the notched belt sprocket and the crankshaft
t  Do not oil bolt for crankshaft sprocket.
–  Install toothed belt (adjust valve timing) → Chapter.
–  Installing Poly-V belt → Chapter.
