Fuel delivery quantity: check, engine code BGU > < Fuel pump: check

l  Fuel pump relay -J17- okay.
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 Volt.
l  Fuel pump fuse in good state, allocation of fuses → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
  Note
The operation of the fuel pump is checked with the actuator diagnosis.
   
–  Connect the central diagnosis -VAS 5051- or central diagnosis -VAS 5052- with the relevant cable.
–  Switch ignition on.
–  On the display, press the pushbuttons Vehicle self-diagnosis, Engine electronics and Actuator diagnosis one after another.
–  On the screen, push the right pushbutton to start the fuel pump regulation.
The fuel pump must now run-on pulsed.
–  Switch ignition OFF.
If the fuel pump does not run:
–  Remove rear seat → bodywork - interior fitting work; Rep. gr.72 .
–  Loosen the floor cover below the seats and tip this to rear.

–  Remove the protection elements from fuel delivery unit (depending on the version).

–  Release retainers -arrows- at cover for sealing flange.

–  First check if the connector -arrow- has been inserted correctly; pull on the connector without pressing the locking mechanism. If the plug connector had not been connected properly, the functional inspection of the fuel pump must be repeated.
–  Detach connector.
–  Check the contact on the plug connector and the fuel supply unit for damage.

–  Connect the adapter for the DSO measuring/oscilloscope module (5 contacts) -VAS 5565-to the connector in the fuel supply unit.
–  Connect the multimeter -V.A.G 1715- to the cables -1- and -5- of the measurement adapter / DSO (5 poles) -VAS 5565-.
–  Restart the actuator diagnosis again. The voltage must now increase pulsed.
Power supply is not okay:
–  Locate and rectify open circuit using current flow diagram → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
Power supply is okay:
  WARNING
Fuel supply line is pressurised. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.

–  Disconnect the fuel lines -1- and -2- from the flange.

t  Press in safety ring to release fuel lines.
t  For vehicles with additional heating, the plug connection and the fuel line of the metering pump -V54- must also be disconnected.

–  Open the sealing ring using the spanner -T10202-.
–  Check that the electrical wires between flange and fuel pump are connected.
If there is cable integrity:
–  Fuel pump is defective, renew fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
