Safety precautions
To prevent injuries to persons and/or serious damage to the fuel injection and ignition system, the following must be noted:
t  If the engine is running or switched on, do not touch nor remove the ignition cables.
t  The cables for the injection and starter systems, in addition to the measurement equipment cables, should only be disconnected and connected when the ignition is switched off.
t  Before washing the engine ensure that the ignition is switched off.
t  Always switch off the ignition before connecting or disconnecting the battery, otherwise the engine control unit may be damaged.
t  If the engine must work in starting mode without actually starting (for example during compression testing), it is necessary that:
–  Pull the fuse for the injector and the ignition transformer from the securing bracket. Fuse allocation → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
Please note the following if test equipment has to be used during a test drive:
t  Test and measuring instruments must always be secured to rear seat and operated by a second person.
If test and measuring instruments are operated from front passenger seat, there is a possibility that the person sitting in this seat may receive serious injuries when the airbag is triggered.
–  Delete the event memory of the engine controller in order to complete the work. Faults are saved when removing the fuse → vehicle diagnosis device, „Guided function“.
