Variable intake manifold change-over function: Check
Variable intake manifold change-over function: Check
This inspection must be performed when the drive speed is insufficient. This means that the acceleration is inadequate or the vehicle reacts delayed.
t  Vacuum system for the variable intake manifold: seal verification → Anchor
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Hand pump -SAT 1390-
  W00-2716
t  Vacuum tester -VAG 1368-
l  The intake manifold variable change-over valve -N156- was checked using → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 .
If the intake manifold variable change over valve -N156- is OK, carry out the following tests:
–  Check the vacuum hoses are correctly connected.
–  Check vacuum hoses for porosity.
–  Verify the seal of the vacuum system for the variable intake manifold → Anchor .
Pressure system for the intake manifold collector: check for leaks
  Note
The actuator for the variable intake manifold change over is incorporated into the intake manifold and is not visible from the outside.

–  Remove the vacuum tube to the variable intake manifold changeover switch -arrow- from the variable intake manifold changeover valve -N156--1- .

–  Connect the vacuum tester -VAG 1368--socket A- to the previously removed vacuum tube.
–  Connect the hand-operated vacuum pump -SAT 1390- to -connection B- of the vacuum tester -VAG 1368-.
–  Adjust the vacuum tester -VAG 1368- in position -A/B- .
–  Operate the hand-operated vacuum pump -SAT 1390-several times. Built up a vacuum of 500 mbar maximum .
t  The vacuum must not drop.
If the pressure drops:
–  Renew intake manifold upper part → Chapter.
If the pressure does not drop:
–  Verify the even movement of the variable intake manifold mechanism.
–  Remove intake manifold lower part → Chapter.
–  Repeat the seal verification on the intake manifold changeover switch. Check if the change-over valve move.
If no fault is found:
–  Renew intake manifold upper part → Item.
