Distribution housing: Removing and fitting
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter
   
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Socket -U-30025E-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Retention tool -3415-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Bolt -3415/1-
t  Torque wrench (5 - 50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench (40 - 200 Nm) -V.A.G 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor

Removing
–  Remove front right-hand side wheel housing liner: → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. Gr.66
–  Mark direction of rotation of Poly-V belt and remove → Chapter.
–  Remove the air conditioner compressor with connected refrigerant pipes from its support. → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. Gr.87.
–  Detach alternator.
   
–  Fit the support -U 30025E- as shown and hang from the ring -arrow-.

–  Lightly pretension the engine using the support tool -U 30025E- and remove the securing screws -arrow- of the engine mount together with the earth cable.
–  Remove sump → Chapter.
  N10-0403
–  Loosen the pulley securing bolt. Secure pulley with retaining tool -3415- and -3415/1-.
  N13-0469
–  Remove Allen keys from the distribution casing and the hexagonal bolts marked with -arrows-.
–  Remove distribution chain.
  Note
Ensure that the crankshaft sleeve remains on the sealing flange.
Fitting
  Note
Make sure that the contact surfaces of the pulley, the attachment bolt, the sleeve and the crankshaft sprocket are free of grease and oil.
–  Clean sealing surfaces carefully. They must be free of oil and grease.
  Note
t  The distribution housing is sealed with the engine using a seal and sealant D 176 501 A1.
t  The D 176 501 A1 should prevent leaking between the distribution housing and the joints, -1- and -2-.
t  The strip of sealant must have a diameter of 10 mm and a thickness of approx. 1 mm.
t  Apply the sealant immediately before fitting the distribution housing.

–  Apply the sealant D 176 501 A1 to the housing seal for the camshafts/cylinder head -1- and to the seal for the cylinder head/engine block -2-.
If using the new repair kit, first slide the diamond covered washer (interior diameter 23 mm) onto the crankshaft journal as far as possible.
Tightening procedure of the Poly-V belt sprocket bolts → Chapter
Renewing crankshaft oil seal on pulley end → Chapter
–  Fit the new gasket on the adjustment pins.
–  For ease of assembly, tighten two studs -M6x80- on the cylinder head and engine block
–  Fit the distribution casing with the crankshaft sleeve over the studs, the adjustment bolts and the crankshaft journal.
–  Evenly tighten the fastening bolts of the distribution casing in diagonal pairs.
Take care not to tilt the camshaft housing.
Tightening torque:
Bolt M6 10 Nm
Bolt M10 50 Nm.
Tightening procedure of the Poly-V belt sprocket bolts → Chapter
Continue installation following reverse order for removing.
