Installing
Installing
l  The sealing surfaces must be free of oil and grease.
l  When fitting the ladder-type frame or the camshaft, cams for no. 1 cylinder must be facing upwards.
l  Pistons must not be at TDC.
–  Install support elements in cylinder head and fit respective roller rocker fingers onto respective valve stem end and support elements.

–  Ensure all roller rocker fingers contact the valve ends -1- and are clipped into their respective support elements -2-.
–  Lubricate the friction surfaces of the camshaft.
  N15-0451
–  Carefully fit the camshaft in the TDC position for cylinder 1 into the camshaft bearing of the cylinder head.
  A15-0927
–  Apply an even, slightly projecting sealant bead (D 188 800 A1) into the clean groove of the retaining frame -arrow-. Spread the sealant evenly on the clean sealing surface.
  Note
t  The strip of sealant should not be too thick. Remove any excess sealant with a lint-free cloth.
t  The ladder-type frame must be fitted and bolted without any interruption, seeing as the sealant starts drying as soon as the sealing surfaces come into contact.
t  Observe use-by date of sealant.
–  Insert rear sealing end so that it is flush.
–  Insert the ladder-type frame and slightly tighten the nuts of bearing 2 and 4 diagonally one after another. Then also lightly tighten the nuts of bearings 3, 1 and 5.
  N15-0450
–  Then tighten the nuts with 23 Nm in the sequence shown.
–  Install cylinder head cover . Tighten the screws from the centre outwards in diagonal sequence.
–  Install the rear notched belt guard.
  A15-0953
–  Put the sealing ring on with the guide sleeve -T10071/1- and press in until the end using the inserting sleeve -3265- and the screw -T10071/2-.
  Note
Place a large customary washer (M 12) under the screw to prevent wear to the pressure socket.
–  Insert the parallel key into the camshaft.
  N15-0641
–  Fit the camshaft sprocket. To tighten the bolt, immobilise the camshaft sprocket with the counterhold 3415. Tightening torque: 100 Nm
  Note
When turning camshaft, crankshaft should not be at TDC. Danger of damage to the valves/piston base.
Further assembly is basically the reverse of the dismantling sequence.
