Removing and installing the theft secured engine control unit
Check the tool and equipment equivalence table according to the applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Electric knife -V.A.G 1561 A-
t  Saw set -V.A.G 1561/14-
   
t  Pliers
  Note
t  When replacing the engine controller, connect the Diagnosis tester -VAS 5051B-
t  The thread on the breakaway bolts can been treated with a threadlocker. For making sure that unscrewing is easier, you can warm the head screws using the Hot air blower -VAS 1978/14-. In doing so, take care that no bordering cables, plugs or components are damaged!
Removal:
–  Switch ignition OFF.
–  Remove the plenum chamber cover: → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.55.

–  Saw the heads of the shear bolts in such a way that two parallel surfaces result -arrows-.
–  Loosen the bolts using pliers.

–  Insert a screwdriver -A- between the protective cover and the retention plate -arrow-.

–  Lift the protective cover by levering it with a screwdriver -A-, and remove it from the retention plate sideways -arrow-.

–  Open the locking mechanism slightly -1-.
–  Then remove the engine control unit from the support -arrow-.
–  Unlock the engine control unit connectors and pull them off .
Installing
–  Connect the engine control unit plug connector and lock in place.
–  Fit the engine control unit onto the retention plate.

–  Press the locking mechanism -1- onto the engine control unit.
–  Mount the protective cover on the retention plate.

–  Tighten the headless bolts -1- evenly, until the bolt heads break off.
–  Fit the front plate of the plenum chamber and the plenum chamber cover → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.55.
