Servicing valve gear > < Removing and installing cylinder head

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Special wrench -T20175-
t  Extractor -T40039-
t  Compression tester -VAG 1763-

Test conditions
l  Engine oil temperature at least. 30 ℃
l  Minimum battery voltage 12.7 V
   
Checking sequence
–  Detach engine cover -arrows-.
  E10-10017
–  Pull all of the ignition coils out about 30 mm using the extractor -T40039-.
  N28-10011
–  Release the connectors -2- and separate the ignition coils at the same time.
–  Remove all the ignition coils with output stages, using the extractor -T40039- .
–  Remove the spark plugs using the spark plug spanner -T20175-.

–  Remove 8-contact connector from the injectors -1-.
–  Ask another mechanic to press the accelerator so that the throttle valve is completely open.
–  Check compression with compression tester -V.A.G 1763-.
  Note
Use of the testing equipment → Instructions.
–  Operate starter until pressure reading on tester no longer rises.

–  Fit spark plugs and ignition coils.
–  Interrogate fault memory of engine control unit → Chapter.
  Note
t  Faults will have been stored in the memory because connectors have been unplugged. After measurement, consult fault memory and then erase it if necessary.
t  The readiness code must be generated if the fault memory has been erased → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051„Guided Functions“.
