Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Special wrench -T10202-
Requirement
l  To remove the fuel supply unit, the tank should be at a maximum of 3/4 of full capacity. Drain the tank if necessary.
Removing
  WARNING
Observe safety precautions when disconnecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27 .
  Note
t  Observe the safety precautions before starting work → Chapter .
t  Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If it is the case obtain anti-theft coding.
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect battery earth connection → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove rear right seat → general body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.72.
–  Lift carpet under the seats and fold backwards.

–  Release retainers -arrows- at cover for sealing flange.

–  Release carefully electrical connection -arrow- on sealing flange and take off.
  WARNING
Fuel system is under pressure! Before opening the system place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling fuel hose from connection. Wear safety goggles and appropriate clothing to avoid injury and contact with skin.

–  Pull fuel supply line -1- and return line -2- off. To do this press release tabs.

–  Fit spanner -T10202- on the three rounded ribs on the locking nut and unscrew union nut from flange. When doing this press spanner -T10202- tightly on the union nut.
  Note
If the fuel delivery unit needs replacing, drain the old delivery unit prior to disposal.
–  Pull fuel delivery unit and seal out of the opening in fuel tank.
Installing
Continue the installation in the reverse order of removal sequence, observing the following:
t  Take care not to bend the fuel gauge sender when installing the fuel delivery unit.
–  Insert new seal for sealing flange dry into opening of fuel tank.
–  Moisten seal with fuel, only when installing fuel delivery unit.
–  Note installation position of fuel delivery unit flange.

t  The tab -2- on the sealing flange must lie between the tongues -1- and -3- on the fuel tank, the -arrow- points in direction of travel.
t  The arrow on the locking nut should line up with the arrow on the tab -2-.
t  Do not interchange supply and return hose (return hose blue or blue markings, supply hose black).
t  After installing fuel delivery unit, check that the supply, return and breather lines are still clipped onto the fuel tank.
–  Ensure that line connections are tight.
–  Observe safety precautions after connecting the battery → electrical system; Rep. gr.27:
–  After changing the fuel delivery unit, the fuel pump should be adjusted → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
