Safety measures
To prevent injuries to persons and/or serious damage to the fuel injection and ignition system, the following must be noted:
t  If the engine is running or switched on, do not touch nor remove the ignition cables.
t  The cables for the injection and starter systems, in addition to the measurement equipment cables, should only be disconnected and connected when the ignition is switched off.
t  Before washing the engine ensure that the ignition is switched off.
t  Only disconnect and connect the battery with the ignition switched off, otherwise the engine control unit may be damaged.
  WARNING
The fuel system is pressurised. The pressure in the high-pressure part of the injection system must be reduced to a residual pressure prior to opening the system → Chapter. A rag must then be wrapped around the joint and the residual pressure dissipated by carefully slackening the joint.
If the engine is required to work at starter speed, without starting the engine, (e.g. to check the compression), it is necessary to remove the connectors from the ignition coils and from the injectors → Item. When the work is completed, consult and erase the memory → Chapter .
The cables for the injection and starter systems, in addition to the measurement equipment cables, should only be disconnected and connected when the ignition is switched off.
If test and measuring instruments are required during a test drive, observe the following points:
  WARNING
t  The testing and measurement equipment must always be fitted to the rear seat to be operated by a second person.
t  If test and measuring instruments are operated from front passenger's seat and the vehicle is involved in an accident, the person sitting in this seat could be seriously injured when the airbag is triggered.
