Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench kit -SAT 8010-, see equivalent → Anchor
   
t  Coolant tester -VAS 5187-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Hollow bolt -VAS 5187/1A-, see equivalent → Anchor
Test prerequisites
l  Coolant temperature at least 85 °C.
l  Injector pump units in good condition.
l  The fuel filter and the fuel lines must not be clogged.
Checking sequence
Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.

Engine code letters BJB, BKC, BXE, BXF
–  Take out the oil dipstick -1- from its guide tube.
–  Raise engine cover sideways -arrows 2- and remove it forwards -arrow 3-.
–  Replace the oil dipstick in the guide tube.

–  Remove the electrical connector -2- from the air mass meter.
–  Disconnect the breather hose -1- and the air conduit hoses -3- and -5-.
–  Remove bolt -4- and take out air cleaner housing.

Select engine identification letters BLS
–  First remove the outer cover -1- and then the inner cover -2- upwards equally.

–  Unplug electrical connector -5- at air mass meter -G70-.
–  Remove the de-aeration hose -1- and loosen the bracket -2- of the air duct hose -3-.
–  Separate the flexible aeration hose -6- and the flexible air hose -8-.
–  Remove bolt -7- and take out air cleaner housing.

  WARNING
t  The fuel system is pressurised. Before opening the system place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.
t  For those vehicles fitted with an injector pump, the temperature of the fuel and the fuel lines may reach up to 100 ºC in extreme cases. Before opening the duct connections, allow the fuel to cool otherwise there is a risk of severe burns.
t  Wear eye and hand protection when performing any type of repair work on the fuel system!

–  Remove screw plug -arrow-.

–  Connect the tandem pump tester -VAS 5187- as show, if necessary, use adapter -VAS 5187/7- or the banjo bolt with seals -VAS 5187/1A-.
–  Install the air cleaner housing again.
–  Start engine and increase engine speed to 4000 rpm.
–  Read the pressure on the gauge.
Specification: min. 7.5 bar, tandem pump OK.
If specification is not obtained:
–  Renew fuel filter.
–  Carry out another test.
If reading again does not match specification:
–  Pinch off the return pipe between the fuel filter and the tandem pump with a hose clamp.
–  Repeat check.
If the specified value is achieved:
–  The tandem pump is operating correctly. Renew O-rings at unit injectors.
If specification is not obtained:
–  Replace the tandem pump → Chapter.
  Note
After removing pressure tester, tighten screw plug to 25 Nm. Renew seal.
