Cylinder head - Components overview
1 - Rear notched belt guard
2 - Rubber grommet
q   If this is damaged, replace it
3 - Threaded pin -15 Nm
4 - Hub
q   for exhaust camshaft
q   With sender wheel for Hall sender -G40-
q   Use counterhold -T10051- to loosen and tighten.
q   To remove, use puller -T10052A-.
q   Extract → Chapter
5 - 100 Nm
q   Use retention tool-T10051- to loosen and tighten, see camshaft: removing and installing → Chapter
6 - Hub
q   For exhaust camshaft
q   Use counterhold -T10051- to loosen and tighten.
q   To remove, use puller -T10052A-.
q   Extract → Chapter
7 - 10 Nm
q   Fit with locking fluid; locking fluid → Parts catalogue
8 - Rocker axle
q   Mark the installation position of the rocker arms
q   Do not mix them up
q   Removing and fitting: vehicles with small engine support → Chapter; vehicles with large engine support → Chapter
q   Before fitting, check if all of spherical head pins and the O-rings are fitted on the injector pump units → Fig.
9 - Bolt
q   For rocker shaft
q   Replace.
q   Loosen and tighten using the wrench -T20045-: vehicles with small engine support → Chapter; vehicles with large engine support → Chapter
q   Tighten respecting the tightening order → Anchor
10 - Cylinder head cover gasket
q   Replace if damaged or leaking.
q   Engage on the spacer dowels of → Item
11 - Cylinder head cover:
q   Removing and fitting: vehicles with engine codes AZV, BKD → Chapter, vehicles with engine codes BMN → Chapter
12 - Sealing cap
13 - Seal
q   Replace if damaged or leaking.
14 - Cap
15 - Special bolt - 10 Nm
q   Replace if damaged or leaking.
q   Observe the sequence when loosening and tightening the bolts: vehicles with engine codes AZV, BKD → Chapter, vehicles with engine codes BMN → Chapter
16 - 20 Nm
17 - Cylinder head bolt
q   Replace.
q   Observe the sequence when loosening and tightening the bolts: vehicles with small engine support → Anchor; vehicles with large engine support → Anchor
q   Note correct sequence when tightening → Anchor
18 - 20 Nm
19 - Tandem pump:
q   removing and fitting → Chapter
20 - Seal
q   Replace.
21 - Cylinder head
q   Removing vehicles with small engine support → Chapter; vehicles with large engine support → Chapter
q   Checking for distortion → Fig.
q   Fitting → Chapter
q   Following the replacement, renew the coolant
22 - Cylinder head gasket
q   Replacement, see cylinder head: Removing - vehicles with small engine support → Chapter, for replacing the cylinder head: Removing - vehicles with large engine support → Chapter
q   Note marking → Fig..
q   Following the replacement, renew the coolant
23 - Hall sender -G40-
q   For the camshaft position
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
24 - 10 Nm
q   Fit with locking fluid; locking fluid → Parts catalogue

   
Spherical head pin for the rocker arm shaft
–  Before fitting the rocker arm shaft, check if all of spherical head pins -1- and the O-rings -2- are fitted on the injector pump units.

Checking cylinder head for distortion
–  Use knife-edge and feeler gauge to measure cylinder head at several points.
l  Permissible distortion, max. 0.1 mm.
  Note
The cylinder heads for diesel engines may not be reworked.

Cylinder head identification
t  Part No. = -Arrow 1-
t  Production code = -Arrow 2- (can be disregarded)
t  Holes = -Arrow 3-
  Note
Depending on the projection measurement of the pistons, gaskets of varying thickness are fitted → Chapter. If only the gasket is replaced, fit a new gasket with the same identification.
