Continuation of the test if display shows the ambient temperature: > < If the display reads -40 ?C continue the test as follows:
If the display reads -120 °C, continue the test as follows:
If the display reads -120 °C, continue the test as follows:
   
–  Unplug the 4-pin connector from the intake air temperature sender -G42- with intake manifold pressure sender -G71--arrow-.
If the reading changes to -40 °C:
–  Press .
–  Press 0 and 6 for the function “End transmission” and press Q to confirm the entry.
–  Switch off the ignition.
–  Replace the intake air temperature sender -G42- with intake manifold pressure sender -G71- → Item.
If the displayed value holds at 120 °C:
–  Press .
–  Press 0 and 6 for the function “End transmission” and press Q to confirm the entry.
–  Switch off the ignition.

–  Connect test box -V.A.G. 1598/31- to the control unit wiring harness, without connecting the engine control unit.

–  Test for open circuits in the wiring between the test box and the 4-pin connector following the wiring diagram.
Contact 1+female contact 108
Contact 2+female contact 85
Wiring resistance: 1.5 Ω max.
–  Also test the wire for short circuit to battery positive.
Target value: ∞ Ω
If no fault is found in the wiring:
–  Replace the intake air temperature sender -G42- with intake manifold pressure sender -G71- → Item.
