Significance of exhaust gas warning lamp
Significance of exhaust gas warning lamp
When the control unit detects a fault the exhaust gas warning lamp lights up.
   
Location of exhaust gas warning lamp.
  Note!
t  The exhaust gas warning lamp may flash or stay on. In either case consult the fault memory → Chapter.
t  The warning lamp flashes: There is a fault that under current driving conditions could damage the catalyst. In this case only drive at very low engine revs.
t  The warning lamp remains on: there is a fault that may affect negatively the composition of exhaust emissions. Interrogate engine control unit fault memory.
t  If vehicle driving performance is faulty or there is a customer complaint and the exhaust gas warning lamp does not light up, consult the fault memory. there may be a fault type stored in the memory with which the warning lamp does not light up instantly.
Checking functions
–  Switch ignition on: The exhaust gas warning lamp should light up.
If the exhaust gas warning lamp does not light up with the ignition on:
–  Test the dash panel insert and exhaust gas warning lamp as follows → Electrical system, self-diagnosis; Rep. Gr.01.
If the exhaust gas warning lamp lights up with the ignition on:
–  Start engine and run at idling speed: The exhaust gas warning lamp should switch off after a few seconds.
If the exhaust gas warning lamp does not light up:
–  Interrogate fault memory, eliminate any faults and clear the memory → Chapter, Fault memory; consulting and clearing.
