  Note!
En lugar del lector de averías -V.A.G 1551- puede usarse también el equipo comprobador de sistemas del vehículo -V.A.G 1552-, aunque en tal caso los datos no pueden imprimirse.The vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- can be used instead of the fault reader -V.A.G 1551-, however a print.
All functions of -V.A.G 1551/1552- can also be carried out with the new tester -VAS 5051-. Connecting -VAS 5051-. Connect the unit -VAS 5051- → Chapter.
Check conditions
  W00-0047
l  Fuses no. 15, 18, 20 and 21, OK.
l  Battery voltage at least 11.5 V.
l  Earth connections between engine (at gearbox bell housing) and body (next to battery), OK.
l  Earth connection in plenum chamber OK.
l  All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window heating must be switched off.
Work sequence
–  Remove driver side shelf.

–  Connect fault reader -V.A.G 15517V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3B-:
After the fault reader has been connected:
–  Depending upon desired function: switch ignition on or start engine → , table “Selectable Functions”..
  Note!
t  If the display remains blank, check voltage supply for diagnostic connection ⇒ Fault finding programme → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
t  If the display does not “indicate as described in the work sequence”: ⇒ Fault reader operating instructions.
t  If due to an input fault “Fault in the data transfer!” is displayed, pull wire off fault reader, reconnect and repeat work step.

–  Operate the fault reader taking into account the reading on the display:
–  Press key 1 for “Rapid data transfer”.

–  Press keys 0 and 1 for address word “Engine electronics” and confirm entry with Q -key.

On the display the control unit identification and coding are displayed, e.g.:
t  6K0 906 034 A = control unit part number ( for latest control unit version see Parts Catalogue)
t  MARELLI 4LV = System designation
t  S121 = version of control unit software
t  Coding xxxxx = control unit coding
t  WSC XXXXX = Workshop code from -V.A.G 1551-, of the workshop who carried out the last coding. (If the factory coding has not been changed, WSC 00000 appears.)
  Note!
Replace control unit if the control unit version displayed does not correspond to the vehicle → .
–  Press key .
