Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551-
  W00-0459
t  -V.A.G 1551/3B- cable
  Note!
The equipment -V.A.G 1552- may be used instead of the -V.A.G 1551-, however in this case the results cannot be printed.
Verification and adjustment conditions
l  Minimum oil temperature 60 °C
l  Consumer electrics, disconnected
Operation sequence
The engine revolution rate can be also read by the measurement block of the self-diagnosis using the fault reader -V.A.G 1551-.
–  Connect the fault reader -V.A.G 1551-.
–  Start the engine and let it run at idle.
Idling speed
  W00-1038
–  Adjust the idle adjustment screw -1-.
   Theoretical value: 900 ± 30/min
Increase in the idle speed
When the engine is cold or the air conditioning comes on, the actuator element for engine idle acceleration increases the idle engine speed.
  N23-0065
–  When the engine is hot, press the handle to the limit against the adjustment screw -2-. The engine speed should increase to 1050 ± 50/min.
If the measured value differs from the ideal value:
–  Loosen the counter nut of the screw to the limit -2- and adjust the increased idle speed to 1050/min by turning the limit screw.
–  Tighten the counter nut to the limit.
–  Check the idle speed → Chapter.
Maximum speed (no charge)
To count the revolution rate with no charge, continue as follows:
  N23-0065
–  Accelerate fully and adjust the idle speed with the adjustment screw -arrow-.
   Theoretical value: 5050 ± 100/min
–  Tighten the counter nut to the limit.
  N23-0152
