Work sequence
Work sequence
–  The engine is removed forwards together with the gearbox.
  Caution
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine well, due to the cramped conditions, pay attention to the following:
Route all pipes/hoses (e.g. fuel, hydraulics, activated charcoal filter system, coolant, refrigerant, brake fluid and vacuum pipes and hoses) and electrical wiring so that the original positions are restored.
Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
–  With ignition switched off disconnect battery earth strap.
  Note!
During this work the battery earth strap must be disconnected. The vehicle should be checked for a fitted radio. If necessary obtain radio anti-theft code first.
–  All cable ties which are opened or cut open when removing engine, must be replaced in the same position when installing engine.
–  Remove battery and battery retainer.
–  Disconnect all electric wires from gearbox, alternator and starter and move clear.
–  Pull off/disconnect all other electrical connections as necessary from engine and lay to one side.
