Test conditions
l  Coolant temperature must be at least 80 °C ⇒ display group 1, display zone 2.
Test sequence
–  Connect fault reader -V.A.G 1551- (-V.A.G 1552-). Switch on ignition and use address word 01 to select engine control unit. (Connecting fault reader and selecting engine control unit → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.)
   
Indicated on display:
–  Press keys 0 and 8 for the function “Read measured value block” and confirm entry with Q key.

Indicated on display:
–  Press keys 0, 0 and 1 for “Display group number 1” and confirm entry with Q key.
 
Read measured value block

Indicated on display: (1...4 = Display fields)
–  Check whether the coolant temperature is above 80 °C.
–  Change to display group 3 as follows: -V.A.G 1551-: Press key 3 twice -V.A.G 1552-: Press key twice

–  Read off throttle valve angle in display zone 3. Throttle valve in start position: 0...7 ∠°
–  On opening the throttle valve slowly up to full gas, taking note of the value of the angle in field 3. This value should increase uniformly up to 75 ∠° min.
–  Press key.
–  Press keys 0 and 6 for the “End output” function and confirm input with the Q key.
–  Switch off ignition.
  Note!
The displayed figure is dependent on the tolerances of the throttle valve potentiometer and does not correspond to the actual opening angle.
If the figure does not increase uniformly:
–  Replace throttle valve control part → Item.
If the display constantly shows 0 ∠° or is above 90 ∠°:
