Injector: verification
Test conditions
l  Fuse 18, correct
Checking process
–  Remove the air inlet duct.
   
–  Start the engine and run at idle or, if the engine will not start, turn using the starter motor. The projected jet should be clearly visible on the throttle valve.
–  Turn the ignition OFF, check the air tight seal of the injector -N30-. No more than 2 drops/min may leak out.
If there is no jet:
–  Verify the fuel pressure regulator → Chapter
–  Verify the activation.

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hand multimeter -V.A.G 1526 A- or multimeter -V.A.G 1715-
t  Diode test lamp -V.A.G 1527 B-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C-
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/18-

Checking process
–  Remove the air inlet duct.
   
–  Extract the 4-pin connector -1- from the injection unit -2-.
–  Connect the diode lamp -V.A.G 1527 B- using the -V.A.G 1594 C- auxiliary cables connected to the pins 2 and 3 of the connector.
–  Operate the starter motor and check the supply voltage to the injector.
   The LED must flicker
If the LED does flicker:
–  Switch ignition OFF.
–  Replace the injector.
The LED does not flicker:
–  Switch ignition OFF.

–  Connect the tester -V.A.G 1598/18- to the control unit cable harness.
–  Check for open circuit/interruption, the cable between the 4-pin connector, pin 3 and the test box socket 7 (from the central pin to the relay carrier plate = resistance cable) according to the electric current circuits diagram.
   Cable resistance: 3.5 Ω max.
–  Check for open circuit/interruption, the cable between the 4-pin connector, pin 2 and the relay carrier plate (from the central pin to the relay carrier plate = resistance cable) according to the electric current circuits diagram.
   Cable resistance: 2.5 Ω max.
–  Additionally, check the cables for any short circuits between themselves.
   Specification: ∞ Ω
–  If no wiring fault is detected:
–  Replace the engine control -J257- → Item
Checking resistance of injectors
  N24-0334
–  Extract the 4-pin connector -1- from the injection unit -2-.
–  Check the resistance of the injector with the multimeter -V.A.G 1526 A- and the auxiliary cables from -V.A.G 1594 C- on the contacts 2+3 of terminal -2-:
   Specification: 1,2…1,6 Ω
   (at ambient temperature + 15…30 °C)
