Inlet system (unmetered air) air tight seal: verification
Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3B-
t  Leak detector spray -G 001 800 A1-
  Note
t  Due to the low pressure inside the inlet system, the leak detector spray will be sucked in with the unmetered air. The leak detector spray reduces the flammability of the mixture. This leads to a drop in engine speed and to a change of Lambda probe reading.
t  Follow strictly the security instructions printed on the container.
Checking process
–  Connect the equipment -V.A.G 1551- (-V.A.G 1552-). Start engine and select “Address code” 01 to select engine control unit. (Fault reader: Connecting and selecting the engine control unit → Chapter.)

Select the function XX
Display indication:
–  Press keys 0 and 0 for “Display group number 0” and confirm entry with Q key.

Input the indication group number XX
Display indication:
(1…10 = Display fields)
–  Note the value indicated in the field 5 (lambda probe) and memorise the range of oscillation.
–  Systematically apply the leak detector spray to the inlet system components.
If the engine speed drops and the indicated value falls outside of the margin:
–  Check sprayed areas of intake system for leaks and rectify if necessary.
