Actuator diagnostic
During the diagnostic, the actuators activate the following components in this order:
l  Throttle actuator -V60-
l  Relay for intake manifold pre-heating -J81-
l  Solenoid valve 1 for the active carbon filter -N80-
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hand multimeter -V.A.G 1526 A- or multimeter -V.A.G 1715-
t  Diode test lamp -V.A.G 1527 B-
t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3B-
t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C-
t  Test box -V.A.G 1598/18-
t  Electric circuits flow diagram

Test conditions
l  Throttle potentiometer -G69-, correct

l  Fuses 15 and 21, correct
Operation sequence
  Note
If the actuator test must be repeated without first starting the engine then the ignition must be turned off for about 20 seconds.
–  Connect the equipment -V.A.G 1551- (V.A.G. 1552). Then switch ignition on and select engine control unit with the “Address code” 01. (Fault reader: Connecting and selecting the engine control unit → Chapter.)
  E01-0119
Display indication:
–  Operate the fault reader taking into account the message displayed on the screen:
–  Press the keys 0 and 3 for the function “Actuator diagnostic”.

Rapid data transmission             HELP
Select the function XX
Display indication:
–  Confirm using the key Q

Rapid data transmission                Q
03- Actuator diagnostics
Display indication:
The throttle actuator plunger should go out and in until the next actuator is activated by pressing the key .
If the throttle actuator does not move:
–  Verify the activation → Chapter
To activate the relay for intake manifold pre-heating -J81-:
–  Press the key .

Actuator diagnostics                  ->
Throttle actuator V60
Display indication:
Inlet manifold pre-heating relay located on the relay plate should click until the next actuator is activated by pressing the key
If the relay does not click:
–  Verify the relay for intake manifold pre-heating -J81-: → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
Activate the solenoid valve 1 for the active carbon filter -N80-:
–  Press the key .

Actuator diagnostics                  ->
Inlet manifold pre-heating relay
Display indication:
The solenoid valve located on the side of the air filter should intermittently be activated until the transmission is ended by pushing the key →
If the solenoid valve clicks:
–  Press the key to end the actuator diagnostics.

Final control diagnosis               ->
Activat. charc. filter solen. valve N80
Display indication:
–  Once again, press the key”.
  Note
Once the actuator diagnostic is finished, input 06 for the function “End transmission” and confirm using the key Q.
If the solenoid valve does not click:

Unknown operation or cannot           ->
execute at this moment
–  Extract the connection to the solenoid valve and connect the removed connection to the diode lamp -V.A.G 1527 B-, using the auxiliary cables from -V.A.G 1594 C-.
The diode lamp should begin to flash (more/less light).
–  Switch ignition off.
–  Replace the solenoid valve: → Rep. Gr.20
The LED does not flicker:
–  Switch ignition off.
  N24-0360
–  Connect the tester -V.A.G 1598/18- to the control unit cable branch.
–  Check for cable interruption between the tester connection 3 and the double connector contact 1 according to the current circuits diagram.
   Cable resistance: 1.5 Ω max.
–  Check also for short circuits to the positive and earth of the battery.
   Specification:∞ Ω
–  Check the cable between the connector number 2 of the double connector and the relay plate for interruption following the current circuits diagram.
   Cable resistance: 1.5 Ω∼max.
If no wiring fault is detected:
–  Replace the engine control -J257- → Item
