Fault reader V.A.G 1551: connecting and selecting the engine electronics control unit

Fault reader -V.A.G 1551-: connecting and selecting the engine electronics control unit

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Fault reader -V.A.G 1551-

t	Cable -V.A.G 1551/3B-

Note

The equipment -V.A.G 1552- may be used instead of the -V.A.G 1551-, however in this case the results cannot be printed.

Test conditions

l	Battery voltage, 11 V minimum

l	Correct fuse 21

l	Earth connections to the gearbox, front, or the cylinder head must be correct

l	Air conditioning, OFF

Operation sequence

–	Remove the shelf from the driver side of the vehicle.

–	Connect the fault reader -V.A.G 1551- using the cable -V.A.G 1551/3B-.

–	According to the required function, the ignition must be connected or the engine started → Chapter, table “Selectable functions”.

Note

t	If the display indications that normally accompany the operation sequence are not displayed: → Fault reader operating instructions

t	If a keying error causes the following message to appear, “Data transmission error”, the fault reader cable must be disconnected and reconnected, then, the sequence of operations is repeated

1 - Rapid data transmission

–	Operate the fault reader taking into account the message displayed on the screen:

–	Press key 1 for “Rapid date transmission”.

–	Press the keys 0 and 1 for the address code “Engine electronics”, confirm using the key Q.

2 - Intermittent code emission

Display indication:

t	6K0 907 311 X = control unit part number (Refer to the Spare Parts Catalogue to find out the version of the control unit fitted)

t	MONO 1.2.3 = System designation

t	DGC = Program version

t	Code 01 = code version

–	Press the key →.
