t  This chapter deals only with component specially related to ignition. The other injection/ignition system components → Chapter.
t  Switch off the ignition before disconnecting or connecting the battery; otherwise the engine control unit could be damaged.
t  The engine control unit is equipped with self-diagnosis.
t  Components marked * are tested with self-diagnosis → Chapter, Fault memory: consulting and clearing.
t  A minimum voltage of 11.5 V is needed for the optimum function of electrical components.
t  Consult the fault memory before repairing and fault finding → Chapter, Fault memory: consulting and clearing.
t  In some tests the control unit may find and store a fault. Thus, once all tests and repairs are done, consult the fault memory and clear it if necessary → Chapter, Fault memory: consulting and clearing.
t  If the engine starts up for a moment and then cuts out after fault finding, repairing or testing components, the cause is the immobiliser blocking the engine control unit. In this event, consult the fault memory and, if necessary, adapt the control unit → Chapter.
