Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Turbocompressor test unit -V.A.G 1397 A-
t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- with cable -V.A.G 1551/3B-

The altitude sender is located in the diesel direct injection control unit.
Test sequence
–  Connect fault reader -V.A.G 1551- (V.A.G 1552) and select engine electronics control unit with the “address code” 01. The ignition must be switched on. (Fault reader: Connecting and selecting the engine electronics control unit → Chapter.)
   
Indicated on display:
–  Press keys 0 and 8 for the function “Read measured value block” and confirm entry with Q-key.

Indicated on display:
–  Press keys 0, 1 and 0 for “Value group number 10” and confirm entry with Q-key.
  
Read measured value block           HELP
Enter value group number             XXX
Indicated on display:
–  Check pressure value in display zone 2. Specification: 920...1200 mbar
If the specification is not obtained:
–  Compare the displayed pressure with a barometer (for example: the -V.A.G 1397 A- turbocompressor tester. Tolerance: ± 30 mbar
If the displayed value is not obtained or if the value of 1024 mbar is constantly displayed:
–  Press the →-key.
–  Press keys 0 and 6 for the “End data transfer” function and confirm input with the Q-key.
–  Switch ignition off.
–  Replace diesel direct injection control unit -J248- → Chapter.
