Injectors: repairing
This engine is fitted with double-springed injectors. Therefore the fuel is injected in two phases.
If these injectors become faulty they must be replaced, as it is not possible to adjust the pressure or repair them.
Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Injector tester -V.A.G 1322- with pressure hose -V.A.G 1322/2-
Checking conditions
l  Pressure tester connected
Check the pressure of the flow
  Caution
When checking the injectors, be careful that the fuel flow does not spray over your hands as due to the high pressure the fuel can penetrate the skin causing serious injury.
  W00-1049
–  Connect the injector to the injector tester.
–  Press the lever of the pump slowly downwards. As the injection begins, read the pressure of the flow. If the reading is different from that of the specification, replace the injector.
Specifications (positive pressure):
New injectors: 190...200 bar
Wear limit: 170 bar
Checking for leaks
–  Press the lever on the pump gently downwards and keep the pressure at approx. 150 bar for 10 seconds. There should not be any fuel leaks from the injector.
–  If there are leaks, change the injector.
