t  Manual multimeter -V.A.G 1526 A-

t  Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594A- or -V.A.G 1594C-
Checking conditions
l  Battery voltage, OK
l  Ignition off
l  Direct diesel injection control unit -J248-, correct
l  Strap fuse for pre-heating elements -S39-, OK
l  All electrical consumers, e.g. lights and rear window heating must be switched off.
Test sequence
–  Switch ignition off.

–  Remove the coolant temperature sender connector-1-.
  Note!
On removing the connector “engine cold” is simulated. When ignition is connected, the corresponding preheating process will be carried out.
–  Remove the connectors from pre-heating plugs.
–  Connect multimeter -V.A.G 1526A- to measure voltage between a pre-heating plug connnector and vehicle earth.
–  Switch ignition on. It should indicate battery approx. voltage for about 20 seconds.
–  If no voltage is present: → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
