Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Central diagnosis -VAS 505X-
  W00-1236
t  Diagnostic cable, 5 m -VAS 5051B/1- or diagnostic cable, 3 m -VAS 5051B/2-
Before carrying out repairs on the Haldex coupling, determine the cause of the fault as accurately as possible by using the „Guided fault finding“, the „Vehicle self-diagnosis“ or the „Measurement module“ of the vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 505X-.
Check the operation of the Haldex clutch II closed
Check conditions:
t  Oil level of Haldex coupling (2nd Generation), check and, top up where applicable, Altea XL 2009 ►, Altea XL Freetrack 2008 ►, Altea XL Freetrack 2009 ► → Chapter.
t  Correct engine control unit and ABS control unit installed (check coding and control unit identification number).
–  Place the vehicle on a lifting platform.
  Caution
For safely reasons, position the vehicle on the lift so the wheels are not touching the ground.
Carry out test with care to avoid damage.
–  Depress clutch pedal.
–  Start engine.
–  Engage 2nd gear.
–  Apply handbrake or parking brake and slowly release clutch.
The engine should now stall.
l  Engine did stall:
The Haldex coupling is closed; function is OK.
l  Engine did not stall:
The Haldex coupling is open. The cause of the fault may be as follows:
t  Main pressure regulating valve sticking
t  Mechanical fault in Haldex clutch.
t  The four-wheel drive control unit -J492- in the rear final group is faulty
Check the operation of the Haldex clutch II open
Check conditions:
t  Oil level of Haldex coupling (2nd Generation), check and, top up where applicable, Altea XL 2009 ►, Altea XL Freetrack 2008 ►, Altea XL Freetrack 2009 ► → Chapter.
t  Correct engine control unit and ABS control unit installed (check coding and control unit identification number).
–  Place the vehicle on a lifting platform.

–  Depress clutch pedal.
–  Start engine.
–  Step on the clutch pedal, place in first gear and slowly start.
All four wheels must turn.
–  Apply handbrake or parking brake.
The rear wheels should stop and the front wheels should continue to turn.
l  If the rear wheels do not turn:
the Haldex clutch is open; it is operating correctly.
l  If the rear wheels turn:
The Haldex coupling is closed. The cause of the fault may be as follows:
t  Main pressure regulating valve sticking
t  Mechanical fault in Haldex clutch.
t  The four-wheel drive control unit -J492- in the rear final group is faulty
t  The hand brake indicator lamp -F9- is faulty
