Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Tubular part -VW 423-, see equivalent → Anchor
  W00-0140
t  Extractor kit -T20143-, see equivalent → Anchor
Procedure:
–  Remove the selector lever cable → Chapter
  W00-2958
–  Remove the screw -arrow- and remove the link rod -A- from the selection shaft (by careful levering).
  N34-10507
–  Remove the link rod retainer for selection shaft, using the extractor -T20143/1-.
–  Lightly lubricate outer edge of new seal.
–  Fill the space between the lip seal and the dust guard, halfway, with grease → Spare Parts catalogue

–  Fully fit the new retainer, without tilting it against the tubular part -VW 423-.
  WARNING
The link rod retainer for selection shaft only fits in one position on the toothing.
–  Fit the link rod and tighten with 20 Nm torque.
–  Fit and adjust the selector lever cable → Chapter.
