Removal:
Removal:
–  Disconnect the battery.
–  Remove driver's side airbag module → Bodywork, Interior fitting work; Rep. gr.69
–  Remove steering wheel with adjustment unit and adjust upward → Chassis, axles, steering; Rep. gr.48.
–  Remove the steering column trim → Bodywork, interior installation work; Rep. gr.68.
  WARNING
Coil connector with slip ring must not be turned out of centre position (secure in installation position using adhesive tape).
   
–  Remove bolts -1-, remove upper panel of steering column in -direction of arrow-.
–  Completely detach upper panel of steering column with dustguard; fixed to panel frame.

–  Remove time-set button, pulling from -1- and the two interior securing bolts -2-.

–  Carefully remove dial from instrument panel, with lever -U-30800-in direction of-arrow-.

–  Remove bolts -4- and remove handle -3- for adjusting steering column.
–  Unscrew bolts -1-, -2- and -5-.
–  Detach bottom section of steering column trim.
–  Remove the steering column electronic control unit -J527- to avoid falling metal fragments when drilling into the unit. → Chapter

–  Remove breakable head bolts -arrows- by drilling them with an angular hand drill.

–  Using tool T20190, drill the two heads using a Ø 5 mm drill bit with a drill depth of 7 mm; change the bit to Ø 10 mm and repeat the operation until the heads are completely removed from the bolts.
–  Turn ignition key to „Ignition ON“ position.
  Note
This is shown in the illustration with the steering column removed.
–  Unplug the electrical connector for reader coil at steering column switch.
–  Separate switch module from steering column.

–  Unfasten retaining clips -arrows- and remove steering lock housing -2- from housing -1-.
–  Extract the remains of the bolts from their allotment.

To remove lock cylinder, the spare key with no light is required, since removal is only possible with a flat ignition key.
–  Turn spare key to „ignition ON“ position, thus aligning recess in trim -arrow- with hole in ignition lock.

in the illustration, the correct position of the lock is shown without ignition key, for better clarity of representation.

–  Insert steel wire or pin (Ø approx. 1 mm) into hole -1- up to stop and simultaneously pull lock cylinder -2- with read coil out of steering lock housing -3-.
  WARNING
The steering lock must not be operated without the lock cylinder, as otherwise it locks completely. A locked steering lock must be replaced.
  Note
When replacing lock cylinders, heed reader coil specifications for immobiliser → Chapter.

–  In vehicles with automatic gearbox, unfasten retaining clips -arrow- and disengage locking switch-1- from steering lock housing.
