Steering angle sensor G85 : Basic setting > < Steering column combined switch: Removing and installing

Airbag spiral spring/retractor ring with collector ring -F138- until 10.05: removing and fitting
Vehicles with ESP are also equipped with the steering wheel angle sender -G85- which is mounted next to the spring for airbag/retractor ring with contact ring -F138-, in one body.
  Caution
Follow the instructions in the repair manual for disconnecting and connecting the battery to the letter .
  Note
t  To remove or install the spring for airbag/retractor ring with contact ring -F138- or the combined steering column switch, the steering wheel must be in the “central position” (wheels “straight”).
t  The spring for airbag/retractor ring with contact ring -F138- cannot be turned out of position.
t  If the steering angle sender -G85- is integrated into the spring for airbag / retractor ring with contact ring -F138- (vehicles with ESP), the basic adjustment of the steering wheel angle sender must be carried out after fitting the combined steering column switch.
Removing:
–  Put the steering wheel in the “centre position” (wheels “straight”).
–  Disconnect battery.
–  Remove the combined switch in the steering column → Chapter
  WARNING
When trying to remove or disassemble the spiral spring by levering on the side of the combined steering column switch, the securing tabs may be damaged.
   
–  Place a screwdriver into the flat opening on the combined steering column switch -arrow- and release the securing tabs-2-.
–  Free the retainer tabs -1- and remove the combined switch spring in the steering column.
Installing:
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following:
–  Tighten bolts to the correct torques.
–  If necessary, carry out the basic adjustment of the steering wheel angle sensor.
