Ribbed belt removal
   
–  Remove the hoods -arrows- that cover the motor -A-, using a screwdriver as a lever.

–  Unscrew the bolts -arrows-.
–  Remove the motor cover -A- upwards.
–  Remove the air interchange tube between the intercooler and the turbocompressor (only TDI motors). → 4 cyl. diesel motor, mechanical; Rep. Gr.21
–  Mark direction of rotation of ribbed belt Poly-V if it is to be reused.

–  Pivot the tensioning roller in the direction of the -arrow- using a e/c 16 open ended flat ring spanner on the tensioning lever.
–  Remove ribbed belt.
  Note!
Remove the ribbed belt Poly-V first from the crankshaft pulley.
Mounting the ribbed belt Poly-V
  Note!
t  When installing used Poly-V ribbed belts, take into account the direction of rotation previously marked
t  Ensure, before installing ribbed- belt, that all ancillaries (alternator, air conditioner compressor, PAS vane pump) are secured tightly
t  In air conditioned vehicles, the ribbed belt Poly-V is removed first from the idler roller and on mounting, installed last
t  On installing the belt make sure that the ribbed belt is well seated in the pulley

–  Pivot the tensioning roller in the direction of the -arrow- using a e/c 16 open ended flat ring spanner on the tensioning lever.
–  Install the pulley Poly-V.
–  Install the air interchange tube (for TDI motors only).
–  Start engine and check how belt is running.
–  Install engine cover.
–  Remove central and right sound insulation trays: → Body-external installation work; Rep. Gr.50
