Voltage test in open circuit
  Caution
The battery caps must always be tightly threaded on when closing the charge, testing the voltage or testing the charge.
Following these instructions carefully to ensure the precision of the test.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Digital multimeter -V.A.G. 1315 A- or
t  Minitester -V.A.G. 1362- or

t  Hand-held multimeter -V.A.G. 1526- or -V.A.G. 1526 A-
  Note!
t  To test the voltage in open circuit of a battery fitted on a vehicle, it is essential to disconnect the earth strap.
t  The vehicle must neither be driven nor started up with the battery to be tested for at least 2 hours before the test.
t  For at least 2 hours before the test, the battery must not be loaded with consumers on.
t  The battery must not be subject to load for at least 2 hours before the test.
To test the voltage of the battery without load, proceed as follows:
–  With the battery fitted and the ignition off, test the voltage with the tester between the terminals.
If the tester indicates 12.5 volts or more, the battery is OK.
The voltage in open circuit of the battery must never exceed the value of 12.5 V (volts); if this should occur, disconnect the battery immediately → Chapter.
