t  Observe current notes (also notes concerning removing and installing components) in workshop manuals and in the Technical Service Handbook.
t  Yellow wiring and sections of wiring harness wrapped in yellow tape indicate a prior repair → Operating instruction for wiring harness repair set V.A.G 1978.
t  Before beginning repairs to a wiring harness, first rectify the cause of the damage, e.g. sharp edges on a body part, defective electrical consumer, corrosion.
t  Disconnecting the battery earth cable (open circuit) ensures safety when working on the electrical system. The battery positive wire need only be disconnected for removal of the battery.
t  To disconnect and reconnect the battery, the procedure described in the workshop manual should be strictly adhered to → Chapter.
t  If possible, do not loosen any earth wires from the body (danger of corrosion).
t  After every repair, perform a functional test. If necessary, erase fault memory, return systems to default settings or perform adaption → Respective repair group in workshop manual.
