General notes:
The support mode provides the onboard supply with power when the battery is removed or disconnected.
The → Instruction manual for the VAS 5095A will provide you with more information for this.
Back-up power supply can be used in the following cases:
t  Back-up power supply of on-board vehicle electrical systems when the batteries is not installed
t  Maintaining the voltage when the battery is replaced
t  Ancillaries test without battery
  WARNING
Injury risk! Observe safety precautions → Chapter.
  WARNING
The batteries whose magic eye a clear yellow or clear colour should not be tested nor charged. Do not perform an auxillary start.
The risk of explosion exists upon testing and charging or performing an auxillary start.
These batteries must be renewed.
–  Turn off the ignition and all electricity consumers.
  Caution
t  The incorrect polarity protection is not active while „charging extremely discharged batteries/backup function“. Connect the charge clamps with the correct polarity to the terminals of the battery poles.
t  This may provoke short circuit sparks.
t  Risk of explosion exists because of this.
t  Make sure that the charger terminals are correctly connected.
t  Do not operate the START / STOP button if the charge clamps are connected incorrectly. The charger may be damaged.
–  Remove battery
  Caution
Always make sure that after removing the battery, that no contact is at hand between the positive terminal connected to the charging clamp and the earth pole on the body. Furthermore, possible contact of the battery clamps must be prevented.
–  Connect the red charge terminal „+“ to the positive terminal of the vehicle.
  Note
On vehicles with Start / Stop function and battery monitor control unit -J367-, the black charging terminal „-“ must be connected to the body earthing. Connecting it to battery negative terminal will cause start/stop system to malfunction.
–  Connect the black charge terminal „-“ to the negative terminal of the vehicle.
–  Check the settings of the battery type on the selector switch for back-up power supply / normal supply → Chapter. The back-up power supply must be selected.
–  Ensure the correct polarity of the charge clamps.
–  Switch on the battery charging unit
The charge will begin to function in backup mode.
Quit the back-up power supply of the battery charger:
–  Switch off the charger.
–  Remove the black charge terminal „-“ of the charger from the negative terminal of the vehicle.
–  Remove the red charge terminal „+“ of the charger from the positive terminal of the vehicle.
–  Unplug the charger from the mains.
