t  Battery tester with printer -VAS 5097 A-
  Note
Take into account the TPI 2012182 in relation to the battery tester with printer -VAS 5097 A-.
To carry out a discharge test of the battery:
  WARNING
The batteries whose magic eye a clear yellow or clear colour should not be tested nor charged. Do not perform an auxillary start.
The risk of explosion exists upon testing and charging or performing an auxillary start.
These batteries must be renewed.
  Note
The battery must have a temperature of at least 10 °C.
–  Turn off the ignition and all electricity consumers.
–  On batteries that are equipped with a colour indicator, check the latter → Chapter.
–  Check the cold test current according to the specific data about the battery in amperes (A) according to DIN or determine with the help of the table → Chapter „Table: Cold discharge test current“ the adjustment margin for the battery tester with printer -VAS 5097 A-.
  Note
If the battery does not have this value in DIN, but in IEC or EN/SAE, convert it using the table → Chapter „Table: Cold discharge test current“ or the table on the device.
–  Adjust the cold testing current using the cold current selector → Chapter.
–  With the ON/OFF function selector the measurement range must be adjusted: 80 - 379 A or 380 - 499 A → Chapter.
  Note
Batteries with a low temperature test current more than 499A according to DIN (e.g. 520A, 580A or 600A) can be checked provisionally with the setting for 499A according to DIN.
–  Connect the red terminal „+“ of the tester to the positive pole.
–  Connect the black terminal „-“ of the tester to the negative pole.
  Note
t  Ensure the perfect connection of the tester terminal clamps.
t  Take into account the TPI 2012182 in relation to the battery tester with printer -VAS 5097 A-.

–  Using the slide switch select the connection point for the test clamps → Chapter.
1 - Connected directly to battery.
2 - Connection to external testing points in the engine compartment.
–  Ensure that the cold current testing value on the battery corresponds to the value selected on the battery tester.
–  Press the start button → Chapter.
The green LED comes on → Chapter. The test program proceeds automatically. The results of the test are printed → Chapter. If the device does not start (no LED turns on, does not print) you must charge the battery → Chapter and then carry out the test again.
–  Switch off the device → Chapter.
–  Remove the test clamps.
  Note
t  The test lasts about 20 seconds.
t  The results of the test are printed .
t  Carry out the test once only. Repeating the test will cause a false measurement.
t  The tester needs some 30 minutes to cool and be ready for the next test.
