Repair point with single crimp connection
–  Expose the wire to be repaired (approx. 20 cm on both sides of the repair point).
–  Remove the adhesive tape from the wiring harness, use a knife if necessary.
  N97-0010
–  Remove the damaged wire section using the cable stripper -VAS 1978/3-.
  Note
When both ends of the vehicle cable are too short for a single crimped connection due to the cut-out defective cable section , connect a repair wire section of the corresponding length using two crimped connections → Chapter.
  N97-0017
–  Strip the cable ends using the strippers 6 - 7 mm.
  N97-0016
–  Push the crimper onto both stripped wire ends of the vehicle and seal the connection using the crimping pliers.
  Note
t  Make sure the correct indentation for the crimped connections is selected → Chapter
t  Do not put pressure on the isolating sheet of the wires.
After closing the pressure connection, you should shrink it with the hot air blower to avoid the entry of moisture.
–  Attach the shrinking kit for the hot air blower -VAS 1978/15- to the hot air blower 220 V/ 50 Hz -VAS 1978/14-.
  N97-10490
–  Heat up the crimped connection using the hot air blower from the centre outwards until it is completely sealed and adhesive is leaking from the ends.
  Caution
When shrink-wrapping the pressure connections, care should be taken to avoid damaging other cables, plastic parts or insulation material with the hot nozzle of the pistol.
Consult previously the instructions manual of the hot air blower!
  Note
  N97-0013
t  Where several wires need repair, care must be taken that the crimped connections do not lie directly next to each other. To prevent an excessively large wiring harness circumference, the crimped connections are offset.
t  If the repair point has already been taped, this point must be retaped following the repair using adhesive tape.
t  Secure the repaired cables, if necessary use a cable tie to prevent rattling noises in the vehicle during driving .
