  WARNING
Disconnect the battery earth cable before working on the electrical system.
When re-connecting battery -A-, always adhere to correct sequence for connecting and disconnecting battery -A- → Electrical System; Rep. gr.27. Deactivate the service module of the phone and telematics control unit -J526-.
Overview
The steering column electronics control unit -J527- is part of the „Steering column switch module“ system. The „steering column switch module“ is made up of:
t  Left- and right-hand steering column switches
t  Spiral spring
t  Steering angle sender -G85-
t  Ignition/starter switch -D-
t  Steering column electronics control unit -J527-
The steering column electronics control unit -J527- is responsible for the exchange of data between the vehicle control units (e.g. the onboard control unit -J519-), the steering column modules (e.g. steering column switches) and the steering wheel (e.g. airbag).
In addition it processes the signals from the multifunctional steering wheel buttons and sends these through the CAN bus.
Fault finding is performed via the „Guided Fault Finding“ → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
