Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-
  W00-0459
t  -V.A.G 1551/3- or adapter cable -1551/3A-
Measures for rectifying commonly occurring faults on particular models → Technical Service Handbook.
Connecting fault reader -V.A.G 1551- and selecting functions (Interrogating unit version)
Check prerequisites:
t  All the fuses according to current flow diagram OK.
t  Supply voltage OK. (Min. 9.0 V).
Connect the fault reader with the cable -V.A.G 1551/3- in the following manner:
  W00-0047
–  Remove the ashtray casing from the central console.
–  Couple the cable plug -V.A.G 1551/3- to the diagnostic connector.

1 - Rapid data transfer*
  Note!
t  If the display remains blank, check -V.A.G 1551- voltage supply according to current flow diagram. → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
t  Additional operating instructions can be called up with the fault reader HELP key.
t  The → key serves to advance the programme sequence.
t  In the operating mode 1 “Rapid data transfer” the function 00 “Automatic test sequence” can be carried out. Then all vehicle control units will be interrogated automatically.
t  During the self-diagnosis, the radio connects in the mute mode.
–  Switch on ignition.
–  Switch on printer with the Print key (indicator lamp in key lights up).
–  Press key 1 for “Rapid data transfer” mode.

–  Press keys 5 and 6. “56” enters the address code “Radio”.

1)  - It is automatically memorised in the radio when entering the system which is being checked.
Display in the radio system during self-diagnosis: “DIAG”.

–  After rectifying faults, enter address code 56 again for immobilizer and confirm with Q key.
