Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Drive bushing -MP3-427 (40-21)-
t  Hub cap extractor -MP5-404 (VW 637/2)-
t  Vehicle diagnosis, measurement and information system -VAS-; (not valid for vehicles without ABS)
t  Brake pedal load, e.g. -V.A.G 1869/2-
t  Brake filling and bleeding device, e. g. -VAS 5234-
t  Bleeding bottle (commercially available)
t  Brake fluid → Chapter
  Note
t  Straightening work on axle studs is not allowed!
t  Re-cutting the axle stud thread is not allowed!
Removing:
–  Removing the wheel hub with wheel bearing → Chapter.
–  Remove brake line from wheel-brake cylinder → Chapter.
   
–  Release screws -arrows-.
–  Remove brake carrier with brake shoe.
–  Remove the axle stud.
Installing:
Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
–  Install the brake line on the wheel-brake cylinder → Chapter
–  Bleeding brake system → Chapter.
  S42-0130
Tightening torques:
Axle stud to axle body
t  Use new screws!
50 Nm + 60°
Twelve-point nut to axle stud
t  Use new nut!
70 Nm + 40°
Securing screw for brake drum to wheel hub4 Nm
Bolted connection of brake line to wheel-brake cylinder14 Nm
Wheel bolts → Chapter
